| Approximately 50 miles northwest of Oberlin lies Swanson Reservoir consisting of over 4,790 acres of crystal clear open water. Oberlin offers an exciting blend of history, recreation, as well as family oriented activities and scenic beauty. Just 30 miles west of Prarie Dog State Park, which is located on the north shore of the Keith Sebelius Reservoir. With plenty of Sport Fishing for Large mouth Bass, as well as for multiple catfish and bluegill, Walleye, Crappie and more. The lakes and parks are all well known for hunting, fishing, as well as camping, hiking, photography, and other outdoor activities. Outstanding is the hunting of Pheasant, Deer, and wild turkeys. With 10,140 acres of land enrolled in Decatur County in 2004 for walk in hunting program, and including Norton, Graham, Sheridan, Thomas, and Rawlins Counties there were 114,768 acres enrolled in the program in 2004 by the Kansas Department of wildlife and parks, these lands are open to the public for hunting purposes. Oberlin enjoys an excellent school system and is in the USD-294 School District, and is home of The Last Indian Raid Museum as well as the Oberlin Arts and Humanities Commission. Oberlin also has an outstanding and well equipped Community Hospital and Clinic, with 3 medical Doctors and a Nurse Practitioner, in addition the hospital is regularly visited as is the Clinic, by Specialists and Special equipment on appointed days. The community is also served by 2 Chiropractors, 1 Dentist, 2 Optometrists, and 2 Pharmacies. There are also several fine Churches in Oberlin of different denominations. As well as many different Community Activities. While the nearest International Airport is located in Denver, Colorado, Oberlin has a Municipal Airport located just north of US 36 on US 83.
